Music Director: Dewayne Morgan
DeWayne Morgan, began his employment at LRMBC in 2003 as our church pianist. Due to his many talents and generous spirit, DeWayne now leads our vocal and hand bell choirs AND accompanies all worship services on either piano or organ. Ask any active participant about our church, one thing mentioned early on will likely be a deep appreciation for DeWayne's music! His unique "bluesy" style is often heard jazzing up an old hymn, stirring souls of young and old alike. But DeWayne readily reciprocates with words that reflect his own feelings about the church, saying "It's a small church with a big heart!" He sees his work as "creating opportunities to fulfill the church's vision statement that emphasize(s) collective and personal discipleship and outreach."
DeWayne is a Florida native and will frequently be seen wearing the orange and blue colors of his Gator Nation. Twice graduated from the University of Florida with a music education degree and a law degree respectively, DeWayne was an ROTC scholarship recipient as well as a Virgil Hawkins Fellow.
DeWayne brings to his ministry a wealth of diverse experience, including years spent teaching public school music K-12, supporting the arts, researching for higher education, and volunteering for local hunger relief. He is currently a PhD candidate in Partnership Development at the University of MD, College Park; a 7-year Research Analyst at the University System of MD; a volunteer at So Others Might Eat; and since 2000, a Tour Guide at the Kennedy Center. DeWayne celebrated five years at LRMBC in the fall of 2008.Return to top of page
Church Administrator/Building Manager: L.W. "Dub" Pool
The Rev. L.W. "Dub" Pool has been with Luther Rice Memorial Baptist Church for almost three years, and his presence here has been a blessing to us. Dub was already known to many of us through his previous ministry as Coordinator of the Mid-Atlantic Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of which Luther Rice Memorial Baptist Church is a part. Prior to that position, he served over 5 years as the Minister of Education at Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis, Maryland where he and his family are active members. Dub's ministerial history also includes eleven years as a Baptist Student Union Director on the campus of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in central Texas. Dub and wife Donna have been married for 31 years, and they have two adult daughters: Becky and Jackie. They reside in Arnold, Maryland, just outside of Annapolis.
I felt your warmth and hospitality when you have welcomed me onto the team. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you. I look forward to co-laboring alongside you as we advance the Kingdom of God through the ministry of Luther Rice Memorial Baptist Church.Return to top of page
Chefs: Bill and Larry Shackleford
Larry and Bill Shackleford, brothers since Larry's birth, have been cooking church dinners for us since ... well, even they can't remember back that far! Suffice it to say that on every FIRST SUNDAY after worship, we are blessed by their culinary gifts. Congregational favorites include Herb Chicken, pot roast, homemade macaroni and cheese, and baked salmon. Larry and Bill are each married and have grown children. Though they are members of their own churches, they often come and worship with us on Sunday mornings. (Oh yeah, and just in case you need to track down these cooking brothers during the week, Bill the movie buff might be found at a local theatre. And you can definitely find Larry on the golf course, says Bill.)Return to top of page
Custodian: Lincoln Gill
Lincoln has served as our Church Custodian since October, 2006. He and his wife, Andrea, and two school-aged sons, Kevin and Josiah, reside in Lanham. His mother-in-law, Andrea's mom, is Mary Ducksworth, a former staff person, and a member of LRMBC since early 2005. Lincoln is particularly appreciated for his always-pleasant demeanor, his positive attitude, and his ability to fix things!Return to top of page
